Wisniewski deserves a look as next Assembly Speaker
September 7, 2009
The Home News Tribune′s recent editorial, "Roberts out; who will be in?" prominently mentions Assemblypersons Joe Cryan and Bonnie Watson Coleman but nowhere speaks of the outstanding qualifications of our own Middlesex County Assemblyman John Wisniewski.
The editorial emphasizes that one legislative leader usually comes from the south and the other, from the north.
We in "mid-state" can′t subscribe to that. Look at the fantastic record of our own former Speaker of the Assembly, Alan Karcher, to name just one. Wisniewski well represents his community and his county. In addition, he has worked tirelessly as chairman of the Transportation Committee.
The Home News Tribune should not buy into the one for the north, one for the south nonsense. We should favor the best possible candidates and not be limited — even in the Senate — to Steve Sweeney as an alternative to Dick Codey. Wisniewski deserves fair consideration in the Assembly.
